“The way to stay fresh is you never stop traveling, you never stop listening. You never stop asking people what they think.” — Rene McPherson | Former Chairman, Dana
As you get to know me, you’ll quickly find out that I’m a huge fan of quotes. My phone is full of screen shots of quotes I stumble across that resonate with me. The above quote sparked my interest because it’s one that speaks volumes of where Family Wellness is as an organization, and it also directly reflects how I approach relationships personally and professionally.
You’ll see me walking the facility often. One of my favorite things to do is listen to the stories our members share as they have coffee after their daily workout. Listening is connecting and those connections help create an environment of trust. John Maxwell (leadership author) states that there are three questions that every follower asks about their leader:
- Can you help me?
- Do you care about me?
- Can I trust you?
I feel that this is true in every relationship that you build. As I build relationships with my staff and our members, I find that it’s extremely important to ask “What do you want to achieve… what’s the ultimate goal… what can we do to help?” When you truly understand where someone wants to be and their reason why, you can connect and provide the resources they need to get there. AND you can motivate them so much easier because they know that you truly care about them.
Family Wellness consistently reaches out for your feedback. We want to improve and do all that we can to create a premier experience for everyone. We appreciate your feedback, and we want you to know that you are heard. We do all that we can to solve any issues that arise and we always like reading the positive comments that come through. We greatly appreciate your responses, and we always enjoy the face-to-face conversations so that we can get a better understanding of “what you think”. We will never stop asking that question because it’s our mission to “Inspire Healthy Lifestyles by connecting people in a fun environment”. So, what do you think?
Looking forward to hearing about your continued success,
Cory Herrmann, Director
